His parents, both of Chadian origin, left Africa when their son was just six months old to move to France. "MC Solaar" is adapted from his old graffiti tags SOAR and SOLAAR which he used to spray on the walls of his local housing estate Géopoétique ist das achte Studioalbum von MC Solaar, das 2017 veröffentlicht wurde. Es ist das erste Album des Rappers seit zehn Jahren. What makes an MC Solaar album special is the combining of his spot on rapping and the rich, almost jazzlike backing he is given, both as dramatic lead in to separate pieces and backing during his (and other rappers’) rapping. The lyrics, as on his other albums, are vivid and poetic -it’s a poetry of fragmented images, filled with social and artistic commentary and allusions to artists and other personalities of our age. The music, interestingly enough, falls into disco music-like grooves at times. This isn’t a criticism, just an observation. (If you didn’t want to get out there on the dance floor when Saturday Night Fever was all the rage, you must have already been dead.) This is good music and what makes it special in the rap world is the richness of the enveloping sound. Long live the King!
